Getting to Nijmegen
Venue Location
This is the location of restaurant Groenewoud. This is a mere five minutes walk from our house. You can park your car in the neighborhood (for free). There is a bus stop (Line 5, stop “Nijmegen, Groenewoudseweg”) opposite the restaurant.
Getting to the Netherlands
The are of course multiple ways to get to the Netherlands.
- By ferry. You arrive in “Hoek van Holland” which is in Rotterdam. From there you can take the train to Nijmegen or drive.
- By car, which you can also take on the ferry, or the train. If going with the train, book early to get a cheap(er) ticket. You can drive via the A15 to Nijmegen (Google maps is your friend).
- By plane. You have two options here, fly to Schiphol (AMS, in Amsterdam), or to Düsseldorf (DUS, in Düsseldorf, Germany).
From Schiphol, either
- Take the train to Nijmegen, there is a direct line. Otherwise travel to Utrecht and from there to Nijmegen (this always traverses the city of Arnhem [as an FYI]).
- Rent a car, although this being the Netherland (and Europe) this might be more expensive than you think.
Traveling in the Netherlands/Nijmegen
Train
The whole of the Netherlands got something similar to the London Oyster card, it’s called the OV chip card, you can get an anonymous one. A new-ish thing is that you can also pay with your debit-card… but we haven’t tried that personally.
Note that in Arnhem the train reverses when going to Nijmegen, it’s not heading back to Amsterdam.
This card is also valid in all buses.
Car
We drive on the right (wink). But using Google maps you should be able to find the route to Nijmegen.
Bike
Works as well, but might take longer.
